I have read through your second appeal carefully, and unfortunately, I find it considerably more concerning than your first.
Your previous appeal presented your behavior primarily as the product of immaturity, attention-seeking, and poor impulse control. You acknowledged that you had offended people, apologized for your conduct, and stated that you intended to move beyond it. I was skeptical at the time that sufficient change had occurred, which is why I denied that appeal. Having now read this one, I am even less convinced that the underlying issues have changed.
The most significant problem is that you have now provided an ideological explanation for the swastika you built. You state that you were motivated by what you perceive as the “ethnic replacement” of European and white people, that the swastika was an “outburst” of those observations, and that you “simply want to protect white people from the agenda.” You then describe your ideal as nations remaining distinguished by their “nature, culture and blood.”
That is considerably different from simply being an “edgy kid” who made an offensive symbol for attention as you claimed in your previous appeal. You are now telling me that the symbol was connected to a genuine racial and demographic worldview that you continue to hold. Whether you (or I) personally consider you a Nazi is ultimately beside the point. I do not need to determine what label you should use for yourself in order to determine that this sort of rhetoric and symbolism is unacceptable on HomeTown.
Nor is the issue simply that you were “political.” I want to be very clear about that distinction. As I mentioned previously, HomeTown has always had players with a wide variety of political beliefs, and people are perfectly capable of discussing politics without making the server an unpleasant place for everyone else. The issue here is not ordinary political disagreement. It is the repeated introduction of racial, ethnic, religious, and extremist rhetoric into a community where people should reasonably be able to play without being subjected to it.
Your comparison to Stalin and Communism does not change that. If another player were to engage in similarly offensive conduct involving Communist or other extremist imagery, that could be dealt with on its own merits. The fact that you believe another ideology or historical figure should receive comparable scrutiny does not make your own conduct acceptable. This appeal is about YOUR behavior, not about whether I can construct a perfectly symmetrical standard for every political ideology that has ever existed.
I am also particularly concerned by your decision to defend Hitler in the same appeal in which you are attempting to convince me that you have moved beyond the behavior that resulted in your ban. You argue that Hitler should not be viewed as the devil because Germany had serious social and economic problems before his rise to power. Whatever historical discussion you may wish to have about the circumstances surrounding the rise of Nazism is not a meaningful defense of the conduct for which you were banned. In the context of your other statements about racial replacement and the protection of white people, it instead reinforces my concern that the underlying worldview which contributed to your conduct has not actually been abandoned.
There is also a fundamental contradiction between your two appeals. In your first appeal, you said that you had recognized the harm caused by your behavior and that you would no longer target groups of people based on their identity. In this appeal, however, you have spent a considerable portion of your argument explaining why you believe white people are under threat and why you believe they need to protect themselves as a racial group. You cannot reasonably expect me to ignore that contradiction simply because you have promised that you would refrain from discussing those beliefs on the server.
You also state that the only way you can fully demonstrate that you have changed is to be allowed back onto the server. I disagree. Being unbanned is not a prerequisite for demonstrating personal change. In fact, the responsibility is the other way around: you need to demonstrate sufficient change before staff can reasonably be expected to trust you with membership in the community again. Your conduct following the original ban, including your attempt to evade it, already demonstrated that you were not prepared to respect the consequences of your actions. This appeal has now given me additional reason to question whether the underlying issues have actually been resolved.
As for your claim that this decision is the result of “staff biases,” I reject that characterization entirely. You were banned for conduct that violated the standards of the community, and your appeal was reviewed on the basis of that conduct. I have not, and will never, intentionally ban someone without being able to back up that ban with a rule violation. I am not obligated to ignore documented behavior simply because you disagree with the staff's interpretation of it.
I also want to address your comment that I “needed more evidence and resources” and that you do not agree with staff reviewing your private messages. The private messages were shared with you in your first appeal to give you an understanding of why you were banned, not as the main reason. If I was considering your private messages in my decision to ban you, you would've been banned much earlier on, since the messages I showed you were sent over the course of a few months. As I told you in your first appeal: "The reason most of these didn't get you banned in the first place is because we don't police DMs..."
Ultimately, the staff team is responsible for maintaining a community where people can reasonably expect to feel comfortable and welcome. Your history on HomeTown, the nature of the conduct that resulted in your ban, your subsequent ban evasion, and now the explanation you have provided for that conduct do not give me sufficient confidence that allowing you to return would be in the best interests of the community. After I denied your previous appeal, several members of the community (independently) came forward to express their gratitude that I had not allowed you to return and their relief that the decision to ban you had been upheld.
I genuinely hope that you continue working toward the personal growth you described in your previous appeal, and I hope that, with time, you come to understand why your conduct was concerning. I recognize that we may never see eye to eye on some of the issues discussed here, and ultimately, that is okay. You are entitled to your own beliefs and perspectives, just as HomeTown is entitled to determine what sort of conduct and atmosphere we want for our community. After everything that has occurred, I've concluded that you are simply not the type of player we want on HomeTown, and have made the decision that your ban from HomeTown will now be permanent. There will be no further opportunity to appeal this ban. Any subsequent attempts to appeal, circumvent this decision, or otherwise petition staff for your return will result in your forums account being permanently banned as well.
