(Necroposting isn't a big issue, so i doubt this suggestion will go far)
If a thread has had no replies for a certain time window (lets say 30 days), could it be possible to auto-lock the thread? This would make necroposting impossible.
The only problem i can see with this solution is specific threads such as the market plot application thread, where it needs to stay open. Perhaps disable auto-locking on staff-posted threads?
As an alternate solution, you could lock a thread if it is not viewed by anyone for a certain time. This way, if a thread is inactive but still has interest, it is still open in case someone wishes to post.
